“I love Salem so when I'm on the east coast, I always make a stop there. I will never stay anywhere other than The Merchant again! It feels much more like an upscale bed and breakfast, from the charming architecture and clean rooms to the breakfast and on the go snack offerings. This last stay was absolutely magnificent. My fiancee and I were celebrating our engagement, and the staff went out of their way to have a lovely gift bag waiting in the room for us. A special and sweet handwritten card along with some very salem treats and goodies! This hotel goes above and beyond with their service...and the whole hotel is unbelievably charming - even without all of the personal touches. Thank you SO much for the perfect stay. We can't wait to come back!!!”

“We had a fantastic stay. The location is unbeatable, steps from downtown. It was lovely waking up and wandering downstairs for homemade quiche and complimentary coffee and other snacks. Plus mid morning scones and mid afternoon cookies! Our rooms were spacious and well equipped. We loved that each room had its own character. The staff was welcoming and kind. Can’t wait to return.”

“Beautiful rooms. Spacious, comfortable great in room amenities and superbly clean. The staff is friendly, cheerful and welcoming. Especially Perry. Truly feels like a home away from home. The warm cookies they put out daily are exceptional. The location, is extremely convenient to all the area attractions. We parked our car and didn't need to get back in it until the ride home.”

“If I could give The Merchant 6 stars just for customer service alone, I would. I travel quite a lot and this has been the best stay I’ve had. The staff is very communicative and friendly. The hotel is beautifully decorated in a mix of modern and period to give the place a timeless feel that’s perfect for anyone wanting to immerse themselves in Salem. The rooms are great; a cozy fireplace, excellent bathrooms, comfy beds even a noise machine if you need it. The coffee and tea bar are outstanding with fresh breakfast treats every morning. I often spent my mornings with a coffee, a scone, and a book while I sat outside watching the sun rise over Salem. I will return.”

“We had a lovely stay in well appointed, thoughtfully designed room 7. The room was large, comfortable and spotless. The access to 24 hour coffee, tea, breakfast (prepared and in refrigerator w microwave available) and the daily cookies were a great way to accommodate flexible schedules. The Inn keeper was very personable and helpful. We were on the third floor and she kindly and cheerfully helped us w bags. The location is perfect- everything in town is within walking distance.”

“Stunning hotel. The room was clean, the bed so comfortable, stylish and quite large. The parking immediately on the premises is somewhat difficult to get into with my big ol’ car but ultimately fine. Safe! The snacks and coffee were terrific and the living room area is gorgeous. Don’t even get me started on the unreal chocolate chip cookies left in the kitchen. It’s all I could do to only take 1 or 2 a night. The staff, particularly Perry, is warm, efficient and communicative. I wish I could’ve stayed longer. 10/10”

“Amazing stay! The common area was absolutely stunning. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We stayed in the George Washington Suite and it was THE perfect hideaway for couples. Location was also perfect too - walking distance from so much! Would absolutely recommend.”
